AH! How can my baby be just one month shy of a year?? He is supposed to still be little, not this little boy he's so quickly turning into. And he is certainly all boy. We have nicknamed our boys "Emotional Evan" and "Destructive Dallin" and they definitely earning those names. Here are some thoughts on our "Little D" this month...

-He has 8 teeth!

-He is EVERYWHERE. He walks all over the furniture, up and down stairs, and gets into absolutely everything. Bookshelves, cabinets, dressers, boxes, table tops- nothing is safe. And he lives to destroy/clear everything.

-He had his first haircut this past month, just off the back and over his ears because it was too long/thick in those areas. He's still a little thin on top

-He's a good sleeper. He still takes 2 naps everyday and each one is about 2 hours long, sometimes up to 3 hours for his morning nap. He wakes up in the middle of the night still almost every night for a bottle, which he didn't do at all for a while but it's a pretty regular 2:30am party in his room.

-He eats just about anything. He will still sit and be fed baby food on occasion and generally likes the baby food in a squeeze pouch but he much prefers to feed himself. He loves bread, hot dogs, cheese toast, pancakes, beans, avocado, peas, cantaloup, biscuit... anything we will give him.

-He doesn't say much but he's very good at "bye bye" which usually is completed with a wave and all. He can say mama and dada and ba (I think it's ball) but he doesn't very often. He mainly just screams and grunts and laughs.

-He loves the bath. He loves the bathroom. He loves the lake. The boy just loves anything about water- including drinking it.

-He has officially accepted a sippy cup... kind of. He really only uses the kind with straws and I know it's because he's too lazy to actually turn a sippy cup up and drink from it since he STILL refuses to hold his bottle unless you absolutely force him to.

-He's so playful. He loves to play with balls and dinosaurs. He loves to be passed back and forth from one person to another while basically jumping out of your arms to get to the other person. He loves all of Evan's toys- especially if Evan isn't in the room and he can have free reign.

-He's super into musical instruments. He will sit and play with a recorder/kazoo/pan flute forever. He just blows on them and gets a sound and is so proud of himself! He loves drums, shakers, maracas, the piano- anything that makes noise!

As I say every month, because it only becomes more true every month, he is so stinking sweet and cute. He is incredibly busy, totally fearless, and wild but he is also a cuddly, sweetie pie. He lights up when he sees you in the morning. He loves to see people and will let just about anyone hold him. He smiles for everyone... he basically is just smiling all the time. It's amazing how different he is than Evan and how we can love them both so completely. Dallin- you are the perfect crazy in our lives and we love you pieces!

I remember the 10 month pictures being particularly difficult to get with Evan and Dallin certainly proved that to be true again. Goodness! 10 months- we are no longer inching toward a year, we are running there! Actually, that's more right than I first thought. Here is why...

-If this month has brought one thing it's SPEED! Dallin can crawl FAST now.

-He loves the bathroom. He would live in the bathtub if we'd let him. So don't even think about leaving the bathroom door open, he will be in there in half a second and literally doing all he can to do get into the bathtub. He lifts his leg as high as he possibly can and reaches in... he's a mess.

-He wants to feed himself more and more. He still likes baby food reasonably well and eats about 6 jars a day. But he also loves bread, all the little baby snacks, french fries, cooked carrots, apples, anything we will let him eat.

-He wants anything Evan has, and always has, but now unless Evan puts it up high, he can actually get it. He will reach until he gets what he wants (it's like he has gogo-gadget arms) and he can stand up using anything.

-He's a pro at waving and saying "bye bye". He also seems to converse with Evan a lot- mainly through screaming but it's way cute. He's not angry, just demanding Evan's attention.

-Dallin is completely fearless. He can crawl half way up any slide (especially the one at Chick-fil-a), up or down a stair or 2, he tries to stand up on everything (including high chairs)- he's busy!

-He is the cutest and happiest little guy when he wakes up. He just talks and Evan runs in there and says "It's a baby!!" and Dallin LOVES it! He stands up in his crib just talking to Evan with the biggest smile- such cute moments of each day.

His favorite things right now are phones, magazines, clearing tables, emptying boxes, and the show "Little Einsteins". He is such a cutie! Everyone talks to him in stores and comments on how cute he is and he just smiles at them- he knows how to work it! He really is such a sweet boy. This entry may make it sound like he's crazy, and he pretty much is, but he's awesome and happy and 100% lovable. He's a huge contrast from number one and it works out just perfectly. We love our little D!

As I watch Dallin sitting in kitchen right now, where he just crawled and then went to sitting all by himself, it amazes me what one can accomplish in 9 months! This has been a big month for him, including some official stats, so let's start there:

He weighs 21lbs and 4oz.

He is 27.8 inches and his head is 18 (the nurse also wrote in his little chart "So Sweet!").

Mobility is officially a major go. He crawls on all 4s now and will disappear before your eyes if you aren't watching his every move. He can go from sitting to crawling and back to second with minimal effort. He's pretty legit.

He can stand up all on his own. Most of the time when you come get him from sleeping, he is standing up in his crib. He also can pull up using furniture, including book cases. Which has resulted in a new activity- clearing shelves.

He love to tear things, namely paper. Not a good hobby.

He will eat things with texture now. He likes baby food with texture and he also likes baby puffs. Very minimal gagging these days.

He says "mama" all the time (love it!). He can also get out some other sounds like ba or da but he's into the mama.

He waves hello and goodbye (and grins the whole time).

He can buzz like a pro. Seriously- future high brass player in the house. He loves to buzz while you feed him... not awesome.

He loves phones and any toy that is not meant to his. One of his favorite things to do is to empty boxes or the little baby rings that stack.

This boy just gets better every day. He is so smiley, so curious, and has just a happy personality. We had to go see an ophthalmologist earlier in the month (he has an astigmatism) and she said "You can just tell he has such a sweet spirit" and he really does! Everyone loves him and so far, he pretty much loves everyone.

That cutie is officially 8 months old. I feel like one year is just around the corner! He is just as sweet as ever. There haven't been any dramatic changes since 7 months, but of course, just gets better each month! So here are some 8 month bits:

-He is an eater! (not that I am surprised) He eats 4-6 containers of stage 2 baby food every day. The only thing we have discover that he absolutely does not like- peas! Oh the faces... not good. This doesn't mean we won't try again later ;)

-He can move forward! But not crawl... he just pulls himself and it's very slow going but it's a start. This makes him even more mobile, but not so mobile that he can't be trusted- yet.

-He has turned into some kind of Jekyll-Hyde napper. One day he naps for 3+ hours the next day, 45 minutes. In other words, this kid has no "schedule" and totally does as he pleases. Isn't that how it should be at 8 months old??

-He is a TV lover. (again, not surprised) While Evan is between movies (because there is almost always a movie playing in our house) he makes all these little grunting noises of impatience. Neither of them actually watch these movies. But when a song comes on, the whole earth stops so they can both watch it. Dallin will all but jump out of your arms if you are holding him the wrong way so he can see what's going on. And don't even think about turning that movie off before the credits are over...

-He is the LOUDEST baby! It's impressive. I have an Uncle Alan who is the loudest person you'll ever meet so everyone in the family is in agreement that Dallin (rhyming with Alan) was the perfect name.

-He's thinking about waving bye bye. He starts to do it sometimes and then he gets really shy. It's like he realizes he's doing something awesome and just can't stand it. Humble, I suppose.

-He is not a still baby. When he's sleepy- he fights it. When he wants down- he will get down. When he wants to move across the room- he will move across the room. If he is laying on your chest and being still, you take advantage of those moments, cause they aren't often.

-He is a grabber and a reacher meaning if it might be in his arms length, he will reach for it until it seems like his arm magically grows and he can get anything he wants. SO BUSY!

-He has 6 teeth, and boy does he love to show them off with his big, wide, beautiful grin!

Dallin is so much his own person. I love seeing his personality shine through more and more all the time. He is so sweet and smiley and friendly and then turns all melty shy and nuzzles his little head into your neck. He is such a mover and such a busy boy. He loves his family and wants to do everything Evan does and be everything Evan is. He is wonderful, adorable, and completely and totally loved.

I swear it is harder and harder to believe the number I type in every month. SEVEN months?? Really? We've had this little gem of a guy around for 7 months already? But then, you can tell he really isn't a little baby anymore, which means he must be doing the inevitable- getting older.

-He eats 3+ jars of baby food everyday and usually some oatmeal too. His interest in bottles decreases daily, but he still manages to eat about 5 a day.

-He has not fussed in his car seat in a long time! Granted, we haven't made any long trips in a while, but what a joy it is to have him happy in the car!

-He is VERY mobile. He may not be crawling yet, but that doesn't mean he's not mobile. He can roll or slither his way anywhere. You turn your head for a split second and he is halfway across the room. If he wants to get something or somewhere, you can bet it will happen, and fast.

-He is officially a sitter but doesn't usually stay sitting for very long because he wants to move!

-He still has only 4 teeth but the top 2 are starting to bud so I imagine this post next month, he will be up to 6.

-He loves toys. If you give him a few, he tries to get them all in his hands at once. But he does not fuss when someone (cough Evan cough) takes a toy from him. I hope this can last!

-He loves books but it is very hard to read to him because he grabs everything. The best books for him and ones he cannot rip and can chew.

-He loves the bath. If Evan gets in the bath before him, he is literally jumping out of your arms to get in too.

-He fights sleep if he is super tired but he has also gotten to the point that most of the time you can just lay him down and will fall asleep without and fussing.

-He is well aware of the function of vocal chords. He screams all the time. Not crying or mad, just screaming. He babbles, buzzes, spits, anything he can figure out with his mouth.

He is such a good boy- really. And when he smiles (which is all time) his whole face lights up and you can't help but return it (that is, if you have a heart). He has a lot of people wrapped around his little finger, just as it should be. We absolutely adore our little Dallin boy!

On Christmas day, Dallin celebrated his half birthday! So his first Christmas and 6 month old all in one day- that's a lot for a little guy to take in! Month 6 has proved to be just as wonderful and exciting as the rest. He is such a good natured, happy, little fellow that we just can't help but love him. He is a regular eater now- he eats oatmeal and 1/2-1 thing of baby food everyday. He still loves his bottles. He has also been introduced to water and enjoys that quite a bit. He now has 3 teeth!! I forgot to mention last month that he already had 2 on the bottom but now one on top hap broken through, too. And thanks to those teeth, the amount of drool being produced on a daily basis has gone down substantially. He can sit up all by himself for short periods of time. He chooses to roll from his back to his front or vice versa and has quite a bit of control over his entire body. He can bring his foot to his mouth, pull of his socks, pick up just about anything, take pretty much anything from you that he wants, pull your hair, pull your jewelry... you know, typical into everything kind of stuff. He loves books and Mickey Mouse Clubhouse (not that he has a choice in the matter). He LOVES his name! Old McDonald is still his favorite song and you have to sing it with his name in it. He went on his first plane ride this month and was great- no fussing (cause he gets to be held the entire time). He also went to California and Disneyland this month- now that's what I call a good month! He still loves his brother and is a mommy's boy. He sleeps through the night almost without fail. He likes to babble. And his greatest discovery ever is his tongue!! He loves that thing- it's out every time he smiles, so that makes up a lot of his day. We call it the "pink pickle" cause it looks just like that- a little baby pink pickle sticking out of his mouth. It is so stinking cute. He really just wants to be big- when Matt and Evan play like "big boys" he just watches and wants to be in on it all so badly! His time will come but for now we are still enjoying the little bit of "baby" time we have left with this one- he is such a sweetie, cutie, goodie boy and we are super blessed to call him ours!
FYI, I intend to start being an "earnest" blogger again in 2014. And I tend to keep my New Years resolutions so, maybe I will be on this more than once a month and tell you more than just Dallin's latest and greatest.

So... BOM-RAT. What's that all about? Let me tell you. It's the abbreviation for "Book of Mormon Read-a-Thon". We are planning one for next Friday with the Young Women in our ward. We will read the entire Book of Mormon in a mere 24 hours. Is it possible? Well, lots of other units have done it and lived to blog it about it later that week so I can only assume it is. I will tell you this much though, right now, it's very daunting to think about.

Here is the thing, it is A LOT more than "just reading" for 24 hours. Let's not even think about the content of what we are reading- that's a whole thing in and of itself. But there is a lot of planning involved in "just reading"for 24 hours. Like a lot of food. I mean, we are talking about teenage girls. Like a lot of activities to keep <strike>them</strike> us awake. Like a lot of outside help to come and read to them. Like an awesome host family who is willing to turn their house over to a bunch of teenage girls and their crazy leaders for 24 hours. Like a detailed schedule of exactly what we will read at exactly what time and where in what groups. This is all just the tip of the iceberg.

I want to share details with you all, but I just can't right now. It's ALL a big surprise for the girls. And we've got lots of tricks up our sleeves. So stay tuned and I promise to provide the reading schedule (which some of you have asked for), the details of our night, and maybe even some pictures.

Who knows, now that I am back to blogging, you may wish me to be gone sooner than you think!kellyehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10204522844156203187noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4981910322677411231.post-52070824934522638542013-12-11T10:58:00.003-06:002013-12-11T10:58:35.018-06:00Dallin- 5 Months

Sweet baby Dallin is 5 months old. He is SUCH a different baby then he was a month ago. He is wide awake, very aware, and becoming very much his own person. He did go to the doctor, so I have some "official" stats to share.

He weighs 16lbs 9.5oz, which is perfectly normal, 50%
He is 26.5" long, 75%

Other "unofficial" facts and stats about him:

He is a great napper. A short nap in the morning around 10, a longer nap after lunch, and then another nap at Grammye's while I teach piano.

He is reconsidering the whole "food" thing. We tried to give it to him right at 4 months and he was not into it at all. Gagging, terrible faces, lots of spitting- it just wasn't working out. Now at 5 months, he is able to get in 2-4 bites each time and enjoys it, so some major maturity is shining through :)

He loves his jumper. He will stay in that thing as long as I need him to (like right now while I upload pictures and write a blog post). The sun on it frustrates him, just like it did Evan. I'm considering writing a review for that thing "WARNING: Sun may cause your babies first case of stress." He also likes to sit in his bumbo and the high chair and still likes laying on the floor and playing with his play mat.

He rolls over, gets up in the little army crawl position, squirms backward, grabs everything, and is just all around a busy boy. Much more curious than his older brother was at this point. He loves to babble/yell; Evan always says "what is he saying, mommy?" And he is very hands on- like his hands have to be on anything he sees i.e. hair, necklaces, clothing, toys, drinks, keys, books... you get the picture.

He is still oh so smiley! He is easy to get to laugh and if you smile at him, expect a smile back. He is almost never fussy- even in the car lately! We still have our car moments but we can definitely make it to Grammye's without a fuss (it's 3 minutes away).

He loves: Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer (song), for Evan to get in his bed and play with him after a nap, Mommy, Grammye, Daddy (in that order), toys, the Nativity book, drooling, the lights from his sound machine, and just life in general.

He is cuddly but very playful. He is loud but can be so sweet and still. He is busy but can be trusted to play on his own for a while. He is cute and cute and cute! We love him to pieces. He is just an awesome little baby.

This sweetie pie gets cuter everyday- can't you tell! He really does seem to be growing up right before my eyes. He certainly is not a newborn anymore. He's strong and solid. He holds his head up, sits up with support, and loves to be standing up while holding onto your fingers. He has found a love for toys. He plays with the toys on his car seat, including pushing the dog's nose for a song, he loves the toys on his play mat and swing, or you can just hand him a toy or a teether and he's entertained for quite a while. He is still the drool king and has to have a bib on all the time. He now has enough body control that the drooling is only magnified thanks to him constantly chewing his hands or toys. He has been getting up once a night, usually in the 5 o'clock hour which means I just bring him out to couch, feed him a bottle, and then we go back to sleep together until Evan comes and wakes us up around 7. He LOVES his big brother. It's more evident all the time. He watches everything he does and can
immediately be calmed down from mild fussing with Evan's attention. He also now knows who his Daddy is and gives Matt the biggest smiles when he comes home or when he can hear Matt's voice. He is still a Mommy's boy though. He prefers for me to be holding him when we are home, although really he just prefers to be held. He's a great sleeper during the day- especially considering his brother is not always careful to be quiet while we are in the nursery for diaper changes. He still HATES the car. We are doing everything possible to help with that. Other than that his general personality is happy, curious, a little loud when he's talking (which is a lot of the time), and very sweet. Dallin is just joy in a little baby boys body and we love him to infinity and beyond! (Evan is watching Toy Story right now...)

My little baby is already 3 months. In my mind, that marks the end of being a newborn and intrance into infancy. We put away a lot of 0-3 month clothing this month and got out all of his 3-6 month clothes. He is still almost exclusively in 0-3 pants but is only in 3-6 pjs. He still sports both size onesies. He has reverted in his sleep. He was sleeping through the night for a few weeks there in month 2 but now, he consistently gets up once a night, usually in the 3 o'clock hour. He sucks a 6oz bottle dry every 3ish hours throughout the day. He generally takes 3 naps a day. He still HATES to car. As in he screams almost every day the entire trip to Grammye's house... which takes 5 minutes tops. Needless to say, we avoid taking him out as much as we can. But that's sad cause he is SO cute and SO sweet once he is out of that car seat. He smiles all the time now and laughs too, so stinkin' cute. He loves to have his diaper changed-he is all grins during that. He is super drooly. Evan only wore a bib when he was eating but Dallin has got one on almost all the time thanks to his drool. He always has his hands/fingers in his mouth. I hate to think that the little guy is teething but... He loves his big brother and his big brother loves him! Evan loves to squish his cheeks together and make a "fish face" (thanks Grammye for teaching Evan that one) and Dallin doesn't mind one little bit when he does it. Evan also loves to hug and kiss on him and hold his head and Dallin just smiles and looks up at his big brother- it's enough to melt your heart! He plays with toys now all the time. He loves the toys on his car seat and on his play mat. He also likes to look at other toys you will give him. He likes to sit and look at the books we read to Evan. He likes to watch TV with Evan. He loves to be in the baby bjorn. He will sleep forever in that thing, even through a marching band competition. He really is just so sweet. I love those big cheeks and that huge smile that is so easy to get out of him. I love seeing him grow up every day and I love seeing him and Evan interact. I am one blessed lady to have such cute and sweet little boys in my house!

let's all ignore the fact that this is the first post since March and just pick up in there here and now. don't even worry about those last 5 months...

Dallin is officially 2 months old! This baby... such a sweetie pie. He is the smiliest little man and it's easy to make him smile- just hold him, change him, look at him, anything! He sleeps through the night and has been for a while now. Occasionally he wakes up but it's very rare. He sleeps a lot during the day too, usually up for an hour or two, down for an hour or two. His favorite song is Old MacDonald and he likes you to say "and on his farm he had a Dallin". If he's fussy, singing this version of the song will calm him down almost immediately. Speaking of fussy, he can be a little fussy at times. He's super gassy (and it stinks!) and when his tummy hurts, he's definitely fussy. He also strongly dislikes the carseat, we know this because he is not just fussy but FURIOUS when he's in it for too long. Bless his little heart that kid goes from 0 to furious in no time when he's in the car and it's an all out fit; screaming, sweating to the point of being drenched in minutes, red as a beet... it's very sad. He can be a little fussy too if he's not being held because this boy LOVES to be held. He's certainly a momma's boy right now. He eats 6 ounces about every 3-4 hours. He loves to watch people and likes the lights on his play mat. He grunts and groans and makes the sweetest little baby sounds all the time. He is a tummy sleeper and sleeps with not blanket or anything in his crib because he is so hot natured. Dallin is sweet, cuddly, and beautiful. I cannot believe we ever lived without him. Our family feels so much more complete with him in it. He is adored by all- especially his big brother- and we just feel so blessed to have him as ours. We love you Dallin!

he immediately wanted to just walk up to him and once it was his turn, that's exactly what he did. he held his hand, let the bunny play with ramone (the car he brought), and just couldn't stop looking at him and touching him. i was worried that he wouldn't want to be held by him so i insisted that we wait until they were ready with the camera. well, i was worried for nothing because once we sat him in the bunny's lap we struggled to get him to look at the camera for the picture because he was just smiling up at the bunny and hugging him- he really did love that bunny!

sunday morning he asked to go see the easter bunny again. when we told him that it was sunday so we had to go to nursery and church today and couldn't see the easter bunny again, he fussed. he talked about the easter bunny this morning in the bath tub. i'm telling you, the kid loved the bunny.

this was great if for no other reason than the bunny photo but the fact that we are going to disney next week and plan to meet as many characters as we can makes it that much better! now we know he will like them too!! i can't wait.

so i wanted him to get excited too and i know the best way to get him to learn anything is through a book. the boy has 4 books completely memorized (insane, i know, he's 19 months old) so i made him a book titled "i'm going to disney" and filled it with pictures of practically everything the magic kingdom has to offer. here is a pic of the front and the back covers:

i felt like i was back in 5th grade making these. i had all the stickers and the paper just in my craft stash from various free-be mailings/scrapbook efforts and i was just putting stickers everywhere! (you can't see the inside covers, they are really sticker-riffic!)

so it started out that i was just going to print out 36 pictures of various things in the magic kingdom that he would especially enjoy. but, in my typical style, nothing can be that simple. so i spent ALL. DAY. MONDAY. making 36 little 4x6 scrapbook pages of everything in the magic kingdom on word. here are some screen shots from my phone of a few of the pages (i will spare you the complete 36)

every page has a complement page in the same color, but i didn't line them up that way when i made them... don't ask. and yes, the book is set up as you would travel around the park. and yes, i did include the princesses, because i plan to use this book for future children and/or future nieces/nephews, hence the lack of personalization in the title. these are just a couple of examples of pages. i downloaded a trillion different fonts for the book and of course, the most time consuming task was finding the pictures i actually wanted to use.

so was the book worth all the effort? well, all morning evan was begging to go to staples (where i had the pages printed) so when i got the email saying it was ready around lunch, we went right away! i cut all of the pages down to size, put them in the book, and handed it straight to him. he LOVES it. his current favorite pages- the railroad ("ride that, ride that") and the mickey mouse page. he keeps saying "go there" and i keep telling him- we are! i am even more excited now that he is excited!kellyehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10204522844156203187noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4981910322677411231.post-32414009926939450932012-12-14T11:58:00.001-06:002012-12-14T11:59:28.461-06:00absence excusei am submitting this entry to excuse myself from my 6 week hiatus of blogging. here are my excuses:

1. laziness
2. i took no pictures in the month of november and like to post pictures with my blogs
3. practicing piano for ward choir as kicked my butt
4. i am the new young women's president and have been planning stuff for that- that's a pretty good and legitimate excuse

other than that, i've pretty much got nothing.

but i'm back- whether you've missed me or not.kellyehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10204522844156203187noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4981910322677411231.post-42334757477648689902012-11-01T09:00:00.000-05:002012-11-01T09:03:47.111-05:00state finalists!
in case you didn't hear, the seneca high school band (which matt is the band director of) made it to state finals for the first time since 1996. i am so proud of all the kids, matt, and everyone else who worked to make it happen, and so happy to say i had a small part too! it was a successful season all around. they finished first in their class at their first competition, 3rd at the 2nd, 2nd at the 3rd. here are some pictures from their first competition.
to qualify for state, you have to finish in the top half at upperstate. there were 19 bands participating, so they took the top ten and seneca managed to solidly grab spot number ten and a superior rating! upperstate was down the road at byrnes high school so my mom, dad, grandmother, evan and i all made the trip to see the show. here is evan being cute, and yes he is wearing a monkey leash. don't judge- they're awesome.
so the final competition was state finals down in batesburg-leesville. it's about a 3 hour trip from here so my mom agreed to keep evan and i traveled with the band for the day. we had a great day! the band did well, their show wasn't the best it could have been, but out of 17 bands they finished number 15 and were only .3 points behind 13! (which made the lackluster performance that much more depressing) but the kids were thrilled and so were we! next year, we plan to be there again and do even better! after the awards, the guard attacked matt with 5 bottles of glitter spray and used them up on him! he was literally COVERED in glitter. it was awesome. but i just couldn't get a good picture of it. so here is a picture of us with his drum major at state finals. we will miss this girl a lot next year!
also on this day were kentucky state finals. and i have to give a shout out to my alma mater, lafayette, who won their 17th state title since 1990! so proud of to be an alum of that band and to have worked for them for 3 years. and thanks to the lafayette band, i'm married to matt! wish i could have been at wku that day too cheering them on.
the next night, matt and i painted our pumpkins. we have never been very good at carving, so we decided to just forgo the mess this year and pull out the paints. i was specifically asked not post who painted which one, so i will leave it for you to decide. let's just say one of us looked up a picture and copied it, the other was more... creative. and what we resulted was a bleeding sumo wrestler? not qite sure, but we had a lot of laughs over it.
we only put our 2 pumpkins outside because evan likes to carry his around the house or take it with him in the car so we decided to leave his inside

first, we let him play in the big pumpkins. it was just a sea of pumpkins out there!

he really was super interested in all of the pumpkins.

but then mimi brought him a perfect little pumpkin she found for him, and he fell in love! he carried that thing around the rest of the day. (and still carries it around)

so we picked out a couple more pumpkins for matt and me, paid the nice man (who gave evan some jack-o-lantern stickers) and then saw there was a cute little place to take pictures. so we made evan "pose" for us, and this is the best one we got.

and what you may or may not know is i am totally okay with that!

i wouldn't like it if i had to stay the night by myself because at the age of 24 i am still scared to do that, but i like it because matt ends up home... eventually :)

so what do i do with these friday nights? if there is a home game, my parents, evan and i all go to the game to work the band store (which we began this year and the deal with matt was "that sounds like a great idea, now if you want me to do that you are going to have to work it"). we leave after the band performs at half time, which gets me home around 9. and then i do what i do on the nights without home games- i watch tlc of course! it's friday brideday!

this means i have seen all of this season of "say yes to the dress-atlanta" at least once, but i usually end up seeing each episode 2 or 3 times. i saw all of secret princes- which i totally did not mean to get into but ended up really liking. and i have loved all of this! the thing is, i don't watch a lot of tv. and matt and i have pretty different tastes in tv so i like that i can watch these shows in peace.

tonight is my last friday night where i get to enjoy the peace. i am very excited to have matt home again. and i'm glad the seneca band and tlc have both had great seasons to entertain me on my friday evenings while he was away!

shana and lukes wedding- which happened to be this past weekend and i will certainly blog more about this when i have some pictures to share. i'm going to be totally honest- i wasn't as excited as i normally am in preparation for this. i think because it was the longest i have ever left evan and i was a bit sad about that. but when i got there, it TOTALLY changed. it was a PERFECT weekend. okay... it had it's share of drama, but what wedding doesn't? it's just part of it. no, in all seriousness it was a weekend all about love- the love of this new couple, the love of my sisters (from my sorority, shana is a sorority sister and 2 of the other bridesmaids were also), the love of best friends. i cried through the entire (quite literally) wedding and then a while on the way home because i was just overcome with the joy of the weekend. i can't express how thankful i am to have been a part of such an awesome occasion.

lauren and tyler's wedding. that was undoubtedly one of the best days of my life. lauren is my soul sister (one of my 3 best friends from high school) and the whole celebration- starting weeks before with showers and the bachelorette party- through the day of was absolutely perfect. when i look back on the pictures from that wedding, i am overcome with love for lauren, meredith, allison, and everyone else involved in that day. i have the best friends in the world and am so blessed to have them still so much a part of my life- for more than 13 years now!! (ladies... we are getting old :)

boa atlanta senior year. this may seem like an odd one. and maybe some of you don't even know what b.o.a. is. let's just say it's one giant marching band competition. being a member of the lafayette band was probably the single greatest experience of my life. i know that may sound ridiculous to some of you, but it has single handedly shaped most of my life. i cannot think back to my days as member without tears i miss it so much still- now 7 years later! but that competition weekend was just perfect. we won our class, came in second overall, and i just remember a feeling of accomplishment. it was my last competition as a member of the band and it just felt like i had given everything i could to that organization. i remember just celebrating with everyone- people who i would have NEVER associated with had it not been for band but who i had grown to truly cherish over the 4 years. i remember crying with my best friends that it was over and that it happened. i just remember that day being nothing but happy and joyful.

so maybe these seem random to you. maybe you expected to read about my wedding or evan's birth- of course those are on the list! but these days are ranked right up there with those. and tis the season for me to be thinking of those events specifically- weddings have been in the front of my mind lately and when shana's wedding wasn't- marching band was. i just wanted to share a little bit of my best of times with you in hopes that it may remind you of some of those days in your own life.

moo (very short)
oo (the sound a gorilla makes)
pa pa (poppie)
wa wa (water)
colt (our friend/adopted family member colt campbell)

and.....

NO! or no no! or no no no or another combination.

right now, it's hilarious. and we are living it up. we ask him everything we can think to ask him and the response is always a resounding "no"- head/body shake and all

well, before church yesterday, he was laying on our bed while we were putting his shoes on him, and matt decided to ask him who his favorite was. the conversation went a little like this:

matt: is mommy your favorite?
evan: no
matt: is daddy your favorite?
evan: no
matt: is mimi your favorite?
evan: no
matt: is ak your favorite?
evan: no

and so and and so on with practically every member of the family. so i said to matt "watch this" and i had this conversation with him:

me: evan, is colt your favorite?
evan: colt, colt, colt

then we get to church. colt shows up at the door. he points and points and says "colt"

we are waiting for sunday school to start, matt and colt are standing outside of the door and he is pointing to colt and repeatedly saying "colt"

so today, at my yw presidency meeting, i decided to see if he would perform for everyone. here is how that conversation went:

me: is mommy your favorite?
evan: no
me: is daddy your favorite?
evan: colt, colt

he didn't even wait for me to get to colt- he just went there on his own! so colt now has a fan club. with at least one member in it. although he's only 13 months, he seems pretty committed.kellyehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10204522844156203187noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4981910322677411231.post-77922698739806694082012-09-13T10:37:00.003-05:002012-09-13T10:37:45.475-05:00review: the hunger games trilogyi told you all i have been reading all along, they have just been series so i've been waiting to post my reviews until i finish the entire series.

well the series i just finished (on friday actually) was the hunger games. hmmm... where to begin.

i guess i should begin with the truth: i did not like them. actually, when i finished the last book i thought to myself "did i really just dedicate so many hours of my life to these books?" i really thought they were horrible. not horribly written but the content was truly horrible- horrible idea, horrible ending. the word have more frequently used is terrible. but depressing, sad, bizarre... they all work too.

in case you haven't read them let me tell you what they're about in a few sentences. there is an all-powerful government that forces 24 kids to fight to death with only one victor every year to remind the "districts" how powerful they are. the main character wins when she is one of the kids sent to the games and she then in turn starts a rebellion. the rebels win, the central government falls, and she basically turns into a lunatic. end of 3 books in 3 sentences.

here is why i didn't like it:

1. i do not like death. i really do not like murder. and this book is full of both.
2. i hated the ending between her and gale.
3. i hated the ending between her a peta (who wanted to see them end up together? not me.)
4. i hated the ending with her sister.
5. i hated how she ended up being crazy.
6. i hated that she went to the games twice (seriously?)
7. i wasn't crazy with katniss after the first book. she just became so self-interested (in my opinion, and i know... the hunger games would change a person a lot)

basically, i can't think of all the other reasons, but i just didn't enjoy them. i liked the first one okay. the second one i was not happy. the third, i was miserable. so would i recommend you read them if you haven't already- absolutely not. but if you want to, you are welcome to borrow any of mine. unless i can sell them first... any takers?kellyehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10204522844156203187noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4981910322677411231.post-46091834254200734002012-09-06T11:51:00.000-05:002012-09-06T11:51:31.675-05:00vocabulary of a 13 month oldtuesday, evan turned 13 months! i don't have any more shirts to photo him in, which is kind of sad, but this month has been the month for talking! he has learned so many new words. here is a list of the words he can say and their translation (i will do my best not to miss any...)

1. mama
2. dada
3. ollie (my parents' dog)
4. ooooo t (oh toodles- from mickey mouse clubhouse)
5. woo woo (woof woof, when he sees a dog or is asked "what's a dog say?")
6. cuk cuk (cluck cluck, when he sees a chicken/rooster or is asked "what's a chicken/rooster say?")
7. gub gub (glub glub, for fish)
8. ca ca ca (car- he always says it multiple times in a row)
9. ba (ball)
10. voo voo (vroom- anytime he is playing with a car)
11. cok (clock- he loves them)
12. go cocks (i swear... he can say it. but when you put a camera up to that boy he immediately stops anything cute he has been doing)
13. go ga (go gators- my dad is an alum)
14. roo t (roll tide- my mom's family are fans)

i am certain i'm missing some. the much longer list is the list of things he can identify. i couldn't even begin to tell you everything on that list but here's an idea:

-all of the family around here and ak
-the names of all the people in pictures on my parents' fridge
-each of the dogs
-tons of toys including: ball, truck, car, lion, penguin, flapper, dog, sock monkey, bear, book, turtle
-most of the furniture
-if you say the word "out" you better plan on taking him with you or he will be one unhappy fella

he's just smart! and i know i'm biased but i'm also blown away with how smart someone can be after only being on this earth for 13 months. if you don't know any babies- you should get to know some because they really will blow your mind. and if you don't know evan- major shame on you.

it was my first time going to lake keowee marina- it was really nice and so close to town, i just had no idea. we decided to go kayaking. katie went last weekend in the canals down in hilton head and had a great time and wanted to go again with all of us in the lake. so we rented 2 double kayaks and headed out. we had a really good time but let's just say, katie and colt were much better than matt and me. i'm not sure it was just us or if it was possibly the kayak but, we had a hard time going straight. we kayaked to a little island and walked around the whole island and skipped rocks- that was really fun. then we headed back to have lunch at the marina.

now this is when things got interesting. we were enjoying our delicious appetizer of homemade blue cheese chips when all of the sudden we see a lady changing her at least 2 year old son's poopy diaper on a table behind us!!! what in the world?! everyone was talking about it, including the employees but it's like i heard one of the waiters say, what in the world do you say to her about that? it was so bizarre. i understand that the restaurant is outside and maybe their wasn't a changing table in the bathroom but goodness, walk back to car or change him on the bathroom floor- just don't use a restaurant table when there are a bunch of other people around too! some people...

after our delicious lunch we had to have some fro-yo so we headed into clemson and enjoyed some 3 spoons. after katie left matt, evan, and i all took and nap and then had breakfast for dinner, watched an episode of mickey mouse clubhouse, and played around a lot. it was just a really enjoyable day and i am thankful that we got one more of those in before the marching band season takes over all of our lives!kellyehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10204522844156203187noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4981910322677411231.post-5782842649114872992012-09-02T20:38:00.001-05:002012-09-02T20:38:39.649-05:00my Heavenly Father loves meas i was swinging evan yesterday outside i was thinking about how beautiful my home and my life is. how beautiful the world around me is. it was early in the morning and everything was still and quiet. it was a good time to reflect on just how blessed i am. through this reflection, one song would not leave my mind, my Heavenly Father loves me, which has always been one my favorite primary hymns. probably because it is the simplicity of the blessings we are given daily which astounds me most. the very fact that we are blessed to open our eyes each morning and partake in this great, albeit trying, mortal existence. seeing nature can so easily bring tears to my eyes. i always think of my many solo drives to ky through the appalachian mountains and the awe i felt when i saw the beauty of the forests, the changing leaves, and the mountains. i love driving back and forth from clemson simply because i get to drive over the water, and since i have lived in SC i have fallen in love with the sight of water. the flowers in my walkway have really gotten out of control, but i cannot bring myself to trim them back, i just love flowers too much! i am thankful for all of the blessings this beautiful world has to offer and am humbled that our Heavenly Father would think to provide us with these things to enjoy.
