so evan is a stomach sleeper. i know that many of you reading this are gasping in disbelief- it is definitely not encouraged, but the fact is, it's the only way he sleeps!
i'm not sure when it happened exactly. he has been a great sleeper since day 1, literally. in the hospital we would call the nurse and ask if he was okay because they would take him to the nursery and he would be gone for hours but it was because he was sleeping. i have always let him take a nap or 2 during the day on his tummy because i could watch him through it. he always slept longer during those naps. so one night, he woke up every 30 minutes for a few hours and i couldn't handle it so i brought him out to the living room and let him sleep on me. i didn't that was very safe but i had to sleep. the next night, same thing was happening so i came and got on the internet and searched "sleeping on your tummy". turns out LOTS of moms let their babies sleep on their stomachs even though it's not encouraged.
i didn't make the decision without any thought. actually, i was very nervous about it. but in the end, i know i've done what's right for my baby. he has no other triggers for sids- low birth weight, second hand smoke, drinking/smoking/drugs during pregnancy, so i'm not worried anymore. last night he slept from 8:30- 3:30 and then didn't wake up again until 8. i'm down with that.
My nephew has slept on his tummy practically from the beginning and he just turned a year old. So many baby rules! I just keep thinking about all the children who did just fine for centuries when their mothers only had their instincts. Otherwise, I will definitely freak out over all the baby rules I "need to know."
ReplyDeleteHe is so adorable. I wouldn't worry about him sleeping on his tummy. If it works and he sleeps, let him. Gabriel still sleeps on his tummy, and sometimes sticks his little booty high in the air. It's funny the positions they find comfortable. Miss you. :)
ReplyDeleteSo cute! I love it :)
ReplyDeletei put all three of mine on their stomachs from day one :) call it audacity, i called it intuition! i don't believe everything "they" recommend. in all acutality, they slept hanging onto my breast for 3 mos - 1 year.
