on wednesday, we took a trip back to lexington for 2 reasons: first TO EAT AT EL TORO!! my favorite restaurant in the world! mexican food is my favorite food in the world and theirs is THE BEST. if you live in lexington and haven't been there- shame. on. you. after we stuffed our faces with mexican deliciousness, we went to walk some of it off at the arboretum on uk's campus. none of matt's family had ever been to the arboretum- and they have all lived around lexington their entire lives! i couldn't believe it and i'm glad we took them there. i love flowers, absolutely one of my favorite things in the world. and evan loved it too, until the end when he was so tired and we tried to force him to sit in a hollow log and smile. what resulted may be better than a smiling picture though.
after that we spend the rest of wednesday with just hanging out with family and taking a long walk after dinner. thursday we made the trip up to northern kentucky to go to the newport aquarium. again, none of matt's family had been there and evan loves anything to do with animals or fish so, it was a must! we had a great time seeing all the cool fish, penguins, and even getting to pet baby sharks! it was a really great day and wore evan out!
friday we went to maysville to have lunch with some of matt's friends from college. it was great to see them and catch up since we haven't seen them in quite a while. when we got back to cynthiana, we went to matt's great aunt and uncle's house, which is just down the road from his grandmother. matt always talks about how big and beautiful their home is so we asked if they would give us a tour. oh my goodness! matt wasn't kidding. their house is amazing!! first of all, it's huge. second of all, it's so historic. and third of all, everything in that house was beautiful! what a treat and i hope we go back, i'm sure there would be much more to learn about and see. after that his grandmother treated us to dinner at the one restaurant in downtown cynthiana- and it was great!
saturday we packed up and left pretty early, we wanted to get back at a reasonable hour. we had a wonderful trip. i am glad we are able to travel to kentucky about twice a year to catch up with friends and family. i do miss lexington, a lot. it will always be my old kentucky home. it's so beautiful and some of my absolute favorite people are there. i'm grateful that it is still a part of my life because growing up in lexington really had a lot to do with who i am today, and i'm thankful for that too!
