matt and i were the victims of a hit and run yesterday!
don't worry we are fine and so is our car but still... how rude!
here is the story (it's short). we were driving and a car pulling out of college apartments (where katie used to live) didn't stop at all at his stop sign and hit us. matt saw it coming (i was driving) and said "whoa!" so i swerved and he barely hit us. we put our emergency flashers on (we were in matt's suv) and pulled over. well he sped right on past us!
luckily we got his license plate number and the make and model of his car. we had to go to the police station and file it. while we were there we watched some kids get picked up by their parents.
the topic yesterday at church was honesty and i think it is so fitting to this story. if he had just pulled over and made sure everything was okay, we would have said "there is no damage so just don't worry about it" but he didn't. so now his mommy (cause it's registered under her name) is going to get a nice phone call from the cayce police today.
moral of the story: honesty really is the best policy.

matt's crazy month
this is supposed to a blog for the both of us and i realize i rarely mention matt in any of it. so here is a post for him.
this month is so crazy for him. it's his last month of his masters and when it's over, i'm afraid he may just have nothing left in him! i cannot possibly tell you everything he has to do but let me give you some highlights:
-a huge paper (about 20 pages on one piece of music)
-an hour long presentation on varese to the band director and dma students (torture and ridiculous)
-a listening log of over 100 pieces of band music (the binder is 3 inches thick)
-a recital (which is really a concert where he is the only conductor and its 45 minutes of music)
-write program notes for all of the pieces on his recital (that are to appeal to both educated and non-educated listeners)
-an oral exam!!! (the only way he can graduate college! him and 5 professors. each gets 10 minutes to ask him literally anything and he has to answer from the top of his head)
this is honestly the super short list. on top of this there is the stress of applying to/interviewing for jobs, church callings, final marching band events (spring game, banquet, etc.) and you know the whole having a baby thing.
i don't know how he is holding his head up out of the water for all this but he is. he told me earlier this week he knows he is being tested and he just has to do it. i can't wait for him to have less stress and i know he is ready for it too! so if you see matt and he looks tired... it's probably because he is actually exhausted.

late start
today was such a strange morning! it stormed last night here in charlotte (i only know because oliver, my parents 110lb golden lab who lives with my grandparents too and sleeps in my room, woke me up with the loudest bark ever!). well when i woke up i could see that there was debris various places due to the extreme winds (i seriously thought my window was going to break) but nothing more than that.
boy was i wrong! i left my grandparents at 7:05 like i do every morning and i usually get to school right at 7:30. today i didn't get to school until 8! homeroom is supposed to be over 7:53 but when i got here, we were still in homeroom. our principal was standing at the front door checking teachers in. we couldn't move onto a period because there weren't enough teachers in the building! we stayed in homeroom until 9 and they put on remember the titans over the tv for the whole school to watch.
some kids got here 3 hours late. that's not a joke. there are over 200,000 power outages and 75 lights out. not to mention 485 is closed at our exit and a bunch of the roads around here are down to one lane or closed because trees are fallen on them.
so no a period which means i gave e period a free day so i can keep my music appreciation classes on the same schedule. i have gotten so much done today!! i only blog during my lunch break, so this time doesn't really count.
hope everyone is safe from the weather. it's beautiful and sunny here now. i guess i will still get to walk the puppies after all! (they are here with me for the week)
