common knowledge

matt is a very smart guy- much smarter than i am most of the time. honestly it is almost daily that i am saying "no, you're right". he's just like that- usually right! but sometimes he does not know the weirdest things!

the first one i can vividly remember happened while we were buying thank you cards for our wedding. he asked me "where do you find thank you cards?" and i told him "in the stationary section" to which he responded "what's stationary?" i have asked so many people since then if they agree with me that the meaning of the word "stationary" is common knowledge and of course, everyone does.

another example happened more recently. but i don't remember the context of the conversation. all i know is somehow i mentioned a poodle skirt and matt had no clue what i was talking about. again, i have done plenty of informal surveying and everyone agrees- common knowledge.

then tonight. we were watching the college world series championship game (go cocks! even with a loss- forever to thee!) and they kept talking about the boy who throws up the "i love you" sign to his parents when he does well. matt did not know the sign for i love you!! katie and i told him that is common knowledge and he didn't agree with us. so i told him i was going to ask everyone on facebook to like my status if they knew what the sign for "i love you" was and if they agreed that it is common knowledge. well, after about an hour, i have 67 likes! that includes one of our band directors from college, my horn professor, and some of his fraternity brothers. so i would say, case closed.

he blames all of this on me being a girl and him being a guy that was "never around girls". all i know is i know something he doesn't and i like to pick on him about it! it's good to be right sometimes!!

adventures in ky

so like i said, we went to ky 2 weeks ago and had a great time! we got there on a monday night, enjoyed dinner with matt's grandmother, granny faye, who we always stay with, and then pretty much hit the sack. tuesday, we went to lexington for me to spend the day with my favorite ladies and all of us to meet baby lance (see prior post). matt and evan also went to winchester to see some of matt's parents' friends. later that night some of matt's extended family came over for dinner, which is always nice.

on wednesday, we took a trip back to lexington for 2 reasons: first TO EAT AT EL TORO!! my favorite restaurant in the world! mexican food is my favorite food in the world and theirs is THE BEST. if you live in lexington and haven't been there- shame. on. you. after we stuffed our faces with mexican deliciousness, we went to walk some of it off at the arboretum on uk's campus. none of matt's family had ever been to the arboretum- and they have all lived around lexington their entire lives! i couldn't believe it and i'm glad we took them there. i love flowers, absolutely one of my favorite things in the world. and evan loved it too, until the end when he was so tired and we tried to force him to sit in a hollow log and smile. what resulted may be better than a smiling picture though.

after that we spend the rest of wednesday with just hanging out with family and taking a long walk after dinner. thursday we made the trip up to northern kentucky to go to the newport aquarium. again, none of matt's family had been there and evan loves anything to do with animals or fish so, it was a must! we had a great time seeing all the cool fish, penguins, and even getting to pet baby sharks! it was a really great day and wore evan out!

friday we went to maysville to have lunch with some of matt's friends from college. it was great to see them and catch up since we haven't seen them in quite a while. when we got back to cynthiana, we went to matt's great aunt and uncle's house, which is just down the road from his grandmother. matt always talks about how big and beautiful their home is so we asked if they would give us a tour. oh my goodness! matt wasn't kidding. their house is amazing!! first of all, it's huge. second of all, it's so historic. and third of all, everything in that house was beautiful! what a treat and i hope we go back, i'm sure there would be much more to learn about and see. after that his grandmother treated us to dinner at the one restaurant in downtown cynthiana- and it was great!

saturday we packed up and left pretty early, we wanted to get back at a reasonable hour. we had a wonderful trip. i am glad we are able to travel to kentucky about twice a year to catch up with friends and family. i do miss lexington, a lot. it will always be my old kentucky home. it's so beautiful and some of my absolute favorite people are there. i'm grateful that it is still a part of my life because growing up in lexington really had a lot to do with who i am today, and i'm thankful for that too!

meeting baby lance

we went to kentucky almost 2 weeks ago. we had a great time and did lots while we were there. but the highlight (for me at least) certainly was meeting baby lance- my best friend's one month old son.

i've written about my 3 best friends before- 3 of the best and most beautiful women i've ever known who i love with all of my heart. well, with this new addition it just makes my love for all of them even greater. it's amazing to see how different our paths are and yet how close and bonded we still are.

lance is just as precious as his pictures make him appear. he looks so much like his daddy but every now and then, you just see his pretty momma shine in him too. we all just held and kissed on him and oo-ed and ah-ed over him- how could you not! he's just so tiny to me, still under 10lbs, which evan was 10 lbs 3 oz when he was born, so he's smaller than my baby ever was. and he is so so sweet! when matt met him, he had to get his hands on him too and just love on that newborn goodness.

we had a wonderful time catching up, eating, reminiscing, talking about the future, and just being together. meredith is about to leave for germany for a whole year so i fear this may be the last picture of the 4 of us together for a while (hopefully we can all squeeze one more visit in before she goes in september). i am so blessed to have these women in my life and thank the Lord that i have the privilege of calling them friends.

evan- 10 months

sorry i've been gone from the blogosphere for so long. vacation, young womens, life... you get it.

so my baby boy is double digits!! in months that is. wow. he has changed so much this month! he has grown up so much this month really. he is now excellent at crawling but is much more interested in walking. although he cannot do it on his own yet, he can go anywhere the furniture will allow him to go. he talks so much! he always has but now, there are many more sounds in his vocabulary. he is a master of all of his vowels. he can scream and make funny sounds and he always laughs at himself. he also laughs at himself when he poots- wonder where he got that from? he now knows how to stand up in his crib and when he does he just screams until we come and get him, which is not so awesome at midnight, but he's getting a lot better about that. speaking of his crib, he's gotten so tall he is now on the lowest setting for his crib! he also full time in a big boy car seat. he loves food- especially big people food like bread, fruit, or french fries. he is still happy happy happy and practically perfect in every way. we love him to the end of the universe and back... times a million!
